Life principles are your driving force for your success and happiness.
Follow the right life principles, and you set yourself up for success.
But what are the right life principles you should follow, you ask?
It’s a great question. I’ll answer it with a personal story.
When I first launched my EdTech, I lost. A lot.
In time, I stopped making stupid mistakes and success followed.
My bank account followed the ebbs and flows.
It was my 9-figure exit that helped the cause. A lot.
As a kid who started his business with no money, experience, or team, how did I create a 9-figure exit?
The 23 life principles I reveal in this article come from the School of Hard Knocks. I learned each of these principles the hard way.
And I’m still learning.
Every time I veer off the path of these life principles, the results show.
If you’re chasing after success and coming up short, I have great news for you.
You don’t know what you don’t know.
Will these 23 life principles make you rich and successful, you ask?
These 23 principles did this for me, and yes, they can do this for you.
If you work for it.
My advice to you is to follow the wise words of Ralph Waldo Emerson who said,
“Your actions speak so loudly, I can not hear what you are saying.”
Life Principles For Success: Your Wealth Is Your Health
The life principles of life principles is your health. A visit to your local hospital demonstrates that your health is everything.
I’ve been both healthy and unhealthy. And I’m never going back to being unhealthy.
I’ll leave brain fog, tiredness, and less than spectacular performance for my competition.
Don’t think for a moment that your happiness and success don’t depend on your health because they do.
All day. Every day.
And I’ll make it simple for you.
Ensure you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
Exercise 30 to 45 minutes every day. And yes, walking counts.
Eat as your Grandparents eat. Take a pass on processed foods, bread, pasta, and sugar. Welcome whole foods, vegetables, fruits, and plenty of water. Eat in moderation.
Life Principles For Success: You’re The Average Of The 5 People You Spend The Most Time With
Just like the life principles you follow, the people in your life matter. Your Mother was right. Birds of a feather flock together.
Whether you realize it or not, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
Hang around losers, and guess what, you’ll become one.
Spend your time with people who are hungry to make a difference and succeed and so will you.
Life Principles For Success: Read (A Lot)
Every successful person I’ve met reads. A lot.
And so should you.
Read to succeed. Every day.
Start reading twenty minutes a day and work your way up to an hour.
My biggest wins come from reading how other successful people became successful.
Reading about other people’s success gives you a proven framework that you can apply to your life.
Success leaves clues. Know what to do, and what not to do, from other people’s success. When creating your life principles, make reading a priority.
And speaking of reading, check out my favorite books that helped me created my 9-figure exit here.
Life Principles For Success: Rituals Win the Day (And Life)
Let your daily rituals bring out the best in you so you can conquer life and reap the reward of sweet success.Click to tweet
Despite your best intentions, you only have so much focus and energy each day. Make it count.
Carve out daily rituals that take the thinking out of thinking.
Enter life principles.
From when to work out, to what to wear, to what to eat, and when to meditate.
Save your energy and focus on the things that matter. Solve a painful problem affecting many people who will pay you for your solution.
Now we’re talking.
Set yourself up for success with morning rituals that start the day with you on top of the world.
Life Principles For Success: Have A Definiteness Of Purpose
Every successful person, past, present, and future have a definiteness of purpose.
What is a definiteness of purpose, you ask, and why do you need it?
A definiteness of purpose is what some people call their ‘North Star,’ or ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goal,’ or vision.
Without a definiteness of purpose, you’re like that ship without a rudder, that is forever lost at sea.
I learned about definiteness of purpose when I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
Once I created my definiteness of purpose and added it to my life principles, I read it upon waking, in the middle of the day, and before bed.
My 9-figure exit is a testament to the power of a definiteness of purpose, as you’ll learn in the next life principle.
Learn how to create your definiteness of purpose here.
And while you’re at it, get yourself a copy of Think and Grow Rich here.
Life Principles For Success: Say ‘No’ More Than You Say ‘Yes’
The ultimate secret to success is saying ‘no’ more than you say ‘yes’ so you can focus on doing what matters most.Click to tweet
When I started my EdTech, Embanet, I had no concept of life principles and I said ‘yes’ to anyone and everything.
And my results showed.
Time was not my own, and I was a tool for other people’s agenda.
It was only when I developed my definiteness of purpose that I had a reason to say ‘no’ to the many daily requests.
I asked myself one question that helped me achieve my 9-figure exit.
What’s this one question, you ask?
If I say ‘yes’ to this request, do I move closer to achieve my definiteness of purpose?
A 9-figure exit.
You do the math.
Life Principles For Success: Find And Solve Massive Problems You’re Passional To Solve
Being an entrepreneur is an excuse to solve problems you’re passionate to solve.
Help enough people get what they want and over time you’ll get what you want. The bigger and more painful the problem, the better.
But the key is to find a problem you’re passionate to solve.
When it comes to life principles that build empires, stop your search. Finding and solving massive problems is where it’s at.
It worked for me.
And it’ll work for you.
Life Principles For Success: Always Go The Extra Mile
When you go above and beyond you’re a deliverer of happiness, and you set yourself up for a life of success and smiles.Click to tweet
Winners exceed expectations by going the extra mile, and so should you.
Go the extra mile and expect nothing in return.
Your actions will have you stand out from the crowd.
Talk is cheap. Most people talk.
For your life principles, ensure you adopt the habit of always going the extra mile.
Be a doer, not a talker.
Go the extra mile.
Life Principles For Success: Stay Positive (Always)
Whether you win, lose, or draw always stay positive knowing that tomorrow is another day.
Staying positive is one of those life principles that is easier said than done.
And I should know.
I failed my way forward.
Despite my success, I still do.
I learned, the hard way, that the difference between winning and losing is your attitude.
Attitude is everything. Always has been and always will be.
Amidst my many failures, I developed the ’24 hour rule.’
I celebrated my biggest wins and I felt the pain of my biggest losses for twenty-four hours.
Tomorrow is a new day, and it’s game on.
It’s my positive attitude that helps me find a way when there appears to be no way.
Losers complain about how life isn’t fair and how hard things are. Winners feel the pain and know that today may not be their day, but tomorrow is opportunity knocking.
When given a choice, and the choice is always yours, keep a positive attitude.
Life Principles For Success: Let Your Actions Talk Louder Than Your Words
Dreamers will always dream and talk. And talk. And talk. Winners always do and let their actions do their talking.Click to tweet
Life principles are everything for winners.
Make the commitment, right now, to let your actions talk louder than your words.
Life Principles For Success: Know That 20% Of Your Actions Generate 80% of Your Results
With limited time and energy focus on the 20% of actions that generate 80% of your results.
Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto discovered what we now call Pareto’s principle.
Pareto observed that only 20% of the population owned 80% of the land. Pareto put this theory to the test and found that the ’80/20′ rule holds up in most areas of life.
For most companies, 80% of their profits are from 20% of their customers. And 20% of a company’s customers create 80% of the problems.
My success skyrocketed when I learned Pareto’s principle. To this day I continue to search for the small number of actions I take that generate the largest success.
And so should you.
Life Principles For Success: Be Early To Rise To Capture And Win The Day
Set yourself up for success by waking up early to revel in your hour of power every day.Click to tweet
I’ve been a late riser, and I’ve been an early riser. The jury’s out and the results are in.
Waking up early rules the day.
My life principles forever changed when I began to wake up early.
Exercise. Meditate. Read. Think. Journal. Laugh. Recharge.
Take the time out to do what matters to you.
Interruptions are few and far between in the early hours of the morning. While everyone else sleeps, you’re doing what matters to you.
You’ll feel great, and you set yourself up for success the rest of the day.
In my travels, I’ve crossed paths with millionaires, billionaires, and successful people. Each and everyone one of these successful people woke up early to enjoy their ritual.
And so should you.
Life Principles For Success: Put Yourself First (Always)
When you put yourself first, you take care of you so you can take care of everyone else.
Social programming and conventional wisdom tell you to look after everyone else first.
And as usual, social programming and conventional wisdom are wrong and not so wise. Change your life principles and you change your life.
By the time you finish taking care of everyone else, you have no time or energy to do what you need to do.
Adopt the life principle of putting yourself first. By looking after you first, you put yourself in the position to take care of everyone.
Life Principles For Success: Done Is Better Than Perfect
Getting things done, and not perfection is what produces results. Always has. Always will.Click to tweet
The perfect storm of the Internet and technology has created a market where time matters.
Your competition is no longer your backyard, and instead, is the world.
Perfection is unattainable at best and destructive at worse.
Insult to injury, most people either don’t notice so-called perfection or don’t care.
Dreamers dream and are always dreamers with much to say and little to show
Doers do. Doers get the results, and win the day because they know done is better than perfect.
Life Principles For Success: Play To Your Strengths
Focus on your weakness, you’re told, so that you can become a better person. You’ll learn more and be better for it.
Play to your strengths. Always.
Remember me? I was that kid who started his business right out of school with no money, team, or experience.
The day my success and happiness started was the day me focusing on my weaknesses ended.
My company flourished, and my success and happiness were off the charts.
Try it today, and you’ll thank me later.
Play to your strengths. All day. Every day.
Life Principles For Success: Winners Know What To Quit And When To Quit It
Famed football coach and legend Vince Lombardi is wrong.
At least when it comes to his famous quote that winners never quit and quitters never win.
Winners know what to quit and when to quit it.
There is a time and play for everything. Including quitting.
Life Principles For Success: Bootstrap Your Business And Your Life (Always)
Say ‘no’ to venture capital and easy money and ‘yes’ to bootstrapping your business.
That’s if you want long lasting success and happiness.
The days of easy money and fast-talking Venture Capitalists are gone.
Once again, companies must prove their worth through real customers and profits.
Whenever and wherever possible, avoid debt.
Yes, it’s painful. And yes it will take you longer. I should know. I bootstrapped my EdTech right up until the day I sold it.
My competition laughed as they rolled in Venture Capital money. And I too laughed. All the way to the bank when I outperformed my competition every time.
Say ‘no’ to the fast and easy money and ‘yes’ to bootstrapping.
Life Principles For Success: Welcome And Learn From Failure
When you learn from your mistakes this is failure disguised as success.
My biggest wins often came right after my losses. It was from my losses that I learned what not to do so I could unleash my potential and success.
So should you.
And for the record, I continue to fail even after all of my success.
But know this, each failure is never a failure. My failures make me stronger, smarter, determined, and more resilient.
Life Principles For Success: Share Your Goals With A Trusted Few People
Wise and successful people keep their goals and dreams to themselves and so should you.
The biggest robber of dreams is well-meaning friends and family.
Most people are either not qualified or jealous of your future success and will talk you out of your dreams.
Let your actions talk louder than your words.
Life Principles For Success: Don’t Chase The Money. Chase Your Passion And Your Fulfillment Follows
For lifelong happiness and success chase your passion, and you’ll find your fulfillment.Click to tweet
Quick story. As a kid, I had visions of grandeur that had me rich and successful.
My greed led the way as I enrolled in a pre-dentistry program at Universty.
What followed was misery, failure, and pain. To this day, that year of undergrad university was one of my most difficult.
I’m grateful that I stopped chasing the money and began to chase my passion.
It took everything I had and hard work, but a 9-figure exit followed.
You can chase the money or your passion.
The smart money is on chasing your passion. You’ll find both your success and fulfillment along the way.
Life Principles For Success: Never Compare Yourself To OthersCompare yourself to others if you’d like the fast track to a life of failure, frustration, and pain.
Everyone is born with gifts that have the potential to change the world for the better.
The fortunate few that find their gifts have gone on to change the world, and build their empires.
And so can you, if you don’t compare yourself to others. Looks to other successful people as the inspiration of what you can achieve. And the inspiration of what’s possible.
Life Principles For Success: Have An Attitude Of Gratitude
Develop an attitude of gratitude, deliver happiness, and build your empire.
Want to feel great, tap into your potential, and unlock your success?
Develop an attitude of gratitude. Start now.
Gratitude is your rocket fuel for lifelong success and happiness.
During my biggest challenges and darkest days, it was my gratitude that saw me through to success.
How do you develop an attitude of gratitude, you ask?
Ask yourself how you feel, right now, if you were looking back at yourself twenty years from now.
You’d look at yourself as young and healthy. Look at the people who are in your life that make life worth living.
Be grateful for this moment and these things.
Know that all you have is the moment, right now. The past has already happened, and the future isn’t here.
Be thankful for your life as it is right now. With all the good, the bad and the ugly. Know that there’s nothing in your life that you’re not capable of dealing with.
Because you are capable. And you will deal with it.
Life Principles For Success: Success Without Fulfillment Is Failure
I’ve woken up with a bank account with no zeroes.
And I’ve woken up with a bank account with many zeroes.
I’m still the same guy. I have the same hopes, fears, and aspirations.
All the money, accolades, and success in the world means nothing if you’re not fulfilled.
The richest person in the world is the one who wakes up every day happy and fulfilled.
You cannot buy true happiness and fulfillment. Instead, you must go deep within and find your fulfillment.
This is why Life Principle 7 is important. Finding and solving massive problems you’re passionate to solve, is everything.
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, find your happiness and fulfillment. Today.
Does money make a difference?
But money cannot give you what you don’t have when it comes to happiness and fulfillment.
Love what you do and do what you love.
The rest takes care of itself.
If you’re chasing after success, stop chasing.
You have everything you need, right now, to live the life of your dreams.
I’ve done the heavy lifting for you with my two decades of in-the-trenches experience.
In this article, I’ve shared the life principles that have made me what I am in business and life.
The life principles you choose are everything.
Success or failure. Happiness or disapointment. Fulfillment or emptiness.
You choose, through your life principles.
Choose wisely, my dear reader.
And when in doubt, remember me.
I’m that kid who launched his business right out of school with no money, team, or experience.
On paper, I should have failed and been miserable.
Instead, I thrived and created a successful company with a 9-figure exit.
My life principles.
And if I can do it, so can you.
There’s no time like the present to start your journey to success, one life principle at a time.
Here’s to you and your success!
Your Raving Fan,
